Haihei
Haihei is a seaside settlement home to a number of holiday baches. The pink beach is 1.5km long and lined by pohutukawa trees. You'll want to come here simply to get to Cathedral Cove. It's a 45mins walk, from the carpark at the end of Haihei Beach Road,to this geological formation is a cavern pounded out of the rock by the sea. The cavern is 20m long and at low tide you can walk below it. The Cathedral Cove Marine Reserve is a protected area which is ideal for diving or snorkeling.
The name says it all. Hot Water Beach is fed by natural hot springs which lie under the sand. You can dig yourself a spot to lie in near the steam if you can see any or cross the stream and dig between the cliff and the rock as that's where the hottest spot is. Go at low tide as during high tide you'll find that the springs are flooded.
