One-Day Tramping
Can anyone recommends the best 3 paths for one-day-tramping in the south island?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Pier, that is a difficult one as I doubt anyone has done all the one day tracks, you are talking in the hundreds if not thousands of possible walks. It also depends on what you like i.e valley walks, mountain terrain, rivers, lakes etc etc, hows you fitness?

Personally if I were in your shoes I would pick 3 National Parks and do a walk in each i.e Fiordland National Park, Arthurs Pass and Nelson Lakes or Abel Tasman if you like golden sandy beaches and don't mind the crowds. Then for each National Park I would go into the local DoC office at each park and ask them their recommendations based on your fitness, time frame, scenery requirements ...

Gary

This may be a bit too late for you. The Queen Charlotte Track at the top of the South Island takes a few days, but a boat will start you off on one section and meet you at the end of the day to take you off again. The Queen Charlotte Sound is a beautiful place. Go to my website at www.PathFinder.Org.nz - you'll find URL's there on the second webpage "101 Things to do . ." I have no financial interest in this service!

Hope you have a good trip.
