I am planning a trip to the south island starting late october with my partner. We were hoping to do lots of tramping, but are a bit freaked out after reading that conditions can be fairly terrible in the south at that time of year. We were planning on doing the hollyford and possibly the routeburn, plus some short tramps around arthur's pass and mt cook np. Are these best avoided at this time of year, or safe enough? Any other recommendations? We're both fairly fit and experienced hikers under sunny australian conditions, but no experience with snow!

hi onny, the conditions at that time of year should be ok. Of course keep an eye out on the forcast and maybe have alternative tramps incase the weather turns bad.
