Hi!

I will be in New Zealand February through April with my boyfriend who is an hiking enthusiast. I would like to accompany him on some tramps, but unfortuantely my knees aren't up for any climbing that resmebles steps or steep terrain. Does anyone know of some tramps (any amount of days) that I would be able to hike?

thanks!

Hi,

Im going to NZ in august with two girls that are very fit and very healthy and love hiking. Unfortunatley 8 knee operations later Im not in the same situation as them.

If anyone can recommend gentile hikes that would be wonderful!

Cheers

I'm so sorry about not answering your questions, have been on the road since october and must of missed this one. I guess you have been and are possibly home by now. Well if anyone else happens to come across this message....

Unfortunately most of our hikes are either in the mountains or other a rough terrain. Almost all of our low land forests were ripped down by farmers, and the forest companies of the day. You might want to stick to one day walks, and there are 100's of those around the country, ranging from a few minutes to several hours.

As far as longer tramps go, you could do the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, the Greenstone Track should be ok, Tablelands in Kahurangi National Park, Lake Daniels should be ok (Lewis Pass), quite possibly the St James Walkway, I did that one in 1998, and if I remember right it was fairly flat, but quite long. There are also quite a few valley tracks on the Westcoast that would be ok, you could just walk to the first hut, before they start heading up.
