|
|
Hi!
I am a graduate of medical allied profession but it seems that the degree I earned here in the Philippines did not match the curriculum of that of the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand, so I decided to shift my career and later on I find myself very much interested in computer troubleshooting and repair.
I am planning to take the exam given by CompTIA and am wondering if having an A+ Certification can be a plus-factor in applying a job in New Zealand.
I really need a feedback on this. Any comments, suggestions, or advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks! |

the points system in new zealand take into account the formal educational training in relation to your job.
difficult to justify to NZIS why you an IT "job" when your degree is in the allied medical discipline. u have a lot of explaining to do to the VO. |

My job experience is different from my qualification. A Full NZQA assessment and years of experience were probably enough to convince my VO.
I'm not sure about medical allied profession w/ IT certifications. Seems like a very long shot in my opinion. I don't think it's going to be a plus unless you can provide years of experiences in the IT industry. |

| Im a computer engineering grad, I work in an Information and Communications Technology Co since graduation, I also have Microsoft , Cisco, Comptia A+, Network + certificates but I am still having a second thoughts about pushing my application to NZ since they told me that this certificates would not earn even a single points, I believe too that it would be very hard for you since your experience and education are poles apart. But if you have the money, you can always try, or like they always say, apply first to seek.co.nz who knows someone there is willing to hire you. Good luck and GOD Bless. |

For those IT people who are already in New Zealand, what are the type of IT related jobs that are recognized for residency approval and are those jobs in demand?
Your comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

hi guys,
these are IT jobs that are in demand in NZ, computer systems engrs, software engrs, test engrs, telecom engrs, and database administrators.
I am now in NZ since 4th january 2008 and landed a job as computer technician. it's not that easy to find a job even if you have the comma after your name like Juan dela Cruz,CCNP,CCIE,MCSE. the thing is "show them what you got".
I think there's a new immigration policy which can be found at www.immigration.govt.nz/anzsco , so you better check this out for more pertinent info.

to know what IT jobs are in demand, check NZ websites like www.seek.co.nz or trademe.co.nz (jobs tab), so you have a fair idea as to what jobs are currently on offer.
check the skills shortage list of NZ through NZIS so you'll know if your skills are needed by NZ and hence, have the chance of getting a work visa.
be realistic also when you compare your skills against that of the jobs on offer. formal training and experience (especially NZ experience) really matter).
there are also recent changes to the policies on classifying skills. Beginning July 2008, NZ will only accept/recognize "ESSENTIAL SKILLS" with corresponding training/experience classification. Check the NZIS website. |

Thank you for the valueable info erwin_nolasco511 and wellingtonianbuddy. I guess its not really a bed of roses for IT people also.
Sir erwin_nolasco, where are you residing now? I'm also planning on looking for a Computer technician position even though i also have a background in programming of about 4 years before I became a unit head of Technical Support. What do you think of my odds on finding a work.
Thanks! |

Hi erwin_nolasco0511,
How did you find a job in nz? Did you apply in the internet or are you already in nz to find the job?
I'm currently working in cebu and plan to apply in nz. I am Java Developer here with 1+ year experience.
Hope you can help me on your advice.
Thanks in advance. |

guys sorry for the late reply. I just applied thru internet from EOI down to ITA process.Got my passport stamped with WTR deferral period of six months. Please note that in my case, i need to get a IT-related job or else i will face removal.
If you are a computer programmer or security professional, i am pretty sure, you can easily find a job here.

To allanz_kie and erwin_nolasco0511,
Thank you for your replies. I'm just having my preparation right now because I'm locked with my company with bond but it will end up this year, probably by early next year I've got to serious on applying to nz.
One thing I need to ask, how did you process your application here? Did you seek help with an agency or doing on your own? How much will I prepared in terms of money?
Thank you again.. |

| If you have a job offer and will apply for a work visa, you will spent only 7k for the work visa, 7-10k for the medicals plus miscellaneus. Fair from Cebu to NZ if you book earlier is 29k ( Discounted fair if work visa) or else 40k if not. I dont know for the Skilled migrant process. Just process on your own, its not that difficult. Just inquire in this forum and there are lots of golden hearted people here who can help you in the process. |

This is absolutely right, show them what you got but the first step syempre is mapansin muna ang resume mo before you can show them what you got and when your name has those certifications like what one NZ employer told me, it's more easier to get recognise than those who have nothing at all. And I guess the CCIE doesnt belong there, CCIE is the most difficult and extensive industry certs in if you have that before your name, then you already SHOWED WHAT YOU GOT. |
