I am interested in a multi-day tramp probably in Abel Tasman or elsewhere in teh north of the South Island. Due to a bad back I need my pack forward transported.

Anyone know of services that do this without the need to pay for a fully guided walk?

You could think about the Queen Charlotte track (NE tip of South Island). There are several companies that transfer you to the start of the track and take your luggage each day from accommodation points. See www.qctrack.co.nz
