| Well my 12 year old cousin was recently attacked by five 15 - 16 year old's (all with red cloths) on a bizzy street when walking home from sckool. For the first time since he was a baby he has now got short hair and was accused of being a skinhead. That does'nt make it alright to attack a innocent person but thats just typical is'nt it. |

| I'm at the moment doin rsearch on the gangs within our town. I have been reading how young the offenders are getting these days. I think it must be so sad for their families and what they must go through when supporting one of their whanau. Not to mention the victims and their whanau. I would really like to get some feedback from some of these people if that is possible. Kia Ora |

I also am doing research on 'why our youth are moving towards the gang trend.' There are so many questions that need answering. Are there enough services out there to cater for our youth? Whanau background. What are gangs offering these youth. Issues within the community, ie gambling, escalating debts, underage drinking, drugs etc. What can we address that may contribute to the well being of our youth(more recreational and social activities, counselling, advocacy, support for Parents, Tdentifying troubled children)I will be interested to hear other replys. |

What we all must remember is that we are not born bad. If our parents are shitty parents than its easy for the law to blame our upbringings on that fact alone, wen in actual fact we are all born with choices and the choices we make in life are the foundations of our being.
As far as gangs affecteing our children, hmmmmmm YES in a sense and NO in another sense.
YES: A gang is like a family if some kids are not in a healthy and happy enviroment than they seek that quick fix of acceptance, just like a fat person trying to lose weight they go for the high sugar food for comfort instead of fruit.
NO: For the simple fact is that we are not products of our parents, our lives are what we make it not what others do or say to us which determinds our paths.
AS far as what gangs offer....You must understand that alot of gangs now run alot of community help groups and confidence outfits for youth and offenders. Perhaps if u ask an association that deal with your issues if they have contacts with gangs and what theor placements in life as far as youth goes.
I may not have helped but I hope i was able to shed some light.. _________________ »-(¯`v´¯)-»♥♥TÅÕÑGÅ♥♥»-(¯`v´¯)-» |

alot is influence from t.v and again getting acceptance and comfort from them also its security as safety. again the saying is people who carry around guns get shot. people who carry around knives get shot. people walking down the street get shot.

Live it up, I think u were/are abit bold to refer to JUST maori kids! It is not JUST maori kids that are under the influence of these gang movies and rap artists is all cultures that surround the whole of new zealand.
If i may be as bold as to ask please do not generalise one culture from another for we all have our good bad and the ugly regardless of what background you have.
