Hi!
I'm hoping to go to NZ at the start of 2005 for 6-12 months, with at least 4 months worth of hiking I'd love to do (course I may have to be a bit more selective, not sure how much will be actually possible, but I'd Like to do them all!), most of it in the South Island (mt cook, mt aspiring, & arthurs pass NPs seem to be the most common on my list at the moment but I've still got some research to do) but also a few in the North (can't miss Tongariro & Egmont NPs).

I don't want to go alone though, for safety reasons & I'm sure it would be better to have someone to share it with as well...

I wouldn't mind joining different people (most seem to be planning shorter trips), but no doubt that would create some problems with the different people wanting to do popular walks that I'd already done, so it would be simpler if I could find a longer-term partner....
Anyone out there wanting to do an extended hiking trip like this?

Jodie
P.S. Oh, I'm 23, f, from Melbourne, Aus. Don't have heaps of hiking experience but am trying to get out most weekends doing something, and would love to build up to mountaineering in the future! Basically I can't get enough of mountains...

Hiya Jodie,

What you've got planned sounds great - I'm in NZ as from September 04 for a year, and hope to be on the SI from Nov onwards.
I'm mad into hiking and the outdoors, but like you will be on my own. When you make it to the SI and wanna crack some of the multi day walks, I'd love to share them with ya. Just drop me an e mail on rachelrann@yahoo.co.uk, and we could meet up, pour over some maps and make some plans.

XXRachel

p.s. I'm from the Lake District in England, 23, and a happy, friendly type of person, whose easy as pie to get along with.

I'm in NZ from October 2004 for 12 months (landing in Auckland) and I'm also looking for people to go hiking with. I have very little experience but I want to get out and see as much countryside as possible.

I'm (almost) 26, from Bristol in England, very relaxed and easy-going, so feel free to email me at t.poynton@blueyonder.co.uk anytime

Just thought I'd add that unfortunately as of yesterday I've had to postpone the trip until April 2005....which means I'll be doing most of the hiking I want to do from Oct/Nov - April 2006...so it's a bit far ahead, but if anyone wants to meet up for a hike during that time I'd be really glad to hear from you!
