My friend and I are planning to hike the Routeburn in late March. We're planning to start at the Divide. We're wondering if its reasonable to do the hike in 3 days instead of 4. Any thoughts?

Well it depends on your fitness but sure, you can skip the first hut (Howden) and head straight to Mackenzie Hut (4 - 5 hours), then the next day to Roureburn Falls Hut ( 5 - 6 hours) then the last leg to Routeburn Shelter (3 - 4 hours) skipping Routeburn Flats Hut.
