Latin Name: Thinornis novaeseelandiae
Status: Highly endangered
Characteristics: 20 cm, wading bird with dark feathers tinged with white at the tips.
Distribution: Once widespread along the New Zealand coastline but now reduced to around 130 birds remaining in the wild around Rangatira (South East) Island in the Chathams group.
